FRIDAY, 1/2 MARATHON

Friday's 1/2 Marathon starts and finishes at Camp Calico, with a 9am start time. 1/4 Mile of pavement allows for runners to space out and find their pace before commencing easterly on Old Arrowhead Road Trail. This open desert trail used to be the main route linking Nevada, Utah, and California and artifacts from a century ago can still be found along the trail. At approximately mile 4.75 you'll emerge to cross over the paved road to The Cabins- primitive native sandstone huts built in the 1930s as a shelter for passing travelers. With The Cabins in your rear view, you'll climb up and over the rocky point, dropping down into Valley of Fire Wash. Hidden nooks, deep crevices, powder sand beaches are explored on this soft sand section before looping back around to Old Arrowhead Trail, which guides your way back to the finish line at Camp Calico. The course is a "lollipop" format; i.e an approx 4.75 mile out and back section with an approx 3.6 mile loop at the top. Approximately 76% hard packed trail; 1% pavement; 16% soft sand; 7% sandstone/ rocky trail. 6 Hours Cut Off.

Slot canyons, slick rock, soft sand, a defunct movie set, and smooth runnable trail will all be enjoyed as you make your way to the top of Prospect Trail where the aid station awaits your arrival at mile 6.55.
